As part of our experimental film series, Main Film presents DISCUSSION-EXPLORATION: CREATING WITHOUT FILMING: a series of events dedicated to exploring forms of experimental cinema that can exist without a camera. Bringing together artists from the fields of experimental film and sound art, this series invites participants to reflect on different ways of creating without the act of filming.
The subjec tof the first roundtable is: Drawing from the archives: creating films from existing footage.
This discussion focuses on the creative reuse of archival footage: home movies, institutional documents, forgotten reels, or found footage. The guests will explore how these fragments can be transformed, repurposed, or recontextualized to produce new works and new meanings. What happens when archival images are taken out of their original context and integrated into new narratives? How can found footage become a critical, memorial, or political tool? What ethical and artistic questions arise when working with pre-existing images?
