On the occasion of the release of Norbourg on April 22nd, 2022, discover the renowned Maxime Giroux, director of Jo pour Jonathan (2011), Félix et Meira (2014) and La Grande Noirceur (2018). All of his films have been presented internationally, notably through prestigious festivals such as the Locarno International Film Festival, the Gotham Film Festival, the Toronto International Film Festival, the Festival du Nouveau Cinema and the San Sebastian International Film Festival, as well as representing Canada at the Oscars in 2016.

This meeting is a privileged opportunity to look back on his career, to review his key works, as well as to understand his creative process and his artistic approach over the years. An event not to be missed!

Maxime Giroux

Maxime Giroux has directed several short films that have been screened in more than fifty festivals and have won some fifteen international awards, including the Best Short Film Award at TIFF and the FNC. He also won the 2007 Genie Award for Best Canadian Short Film. His first feature film, Demain, was selected in official competition in Turin and received a special mention from the jury in Tübingen. His second feature, Jo pour Jonathan, had its world premiere at the Locarno International Film Festival in 2010, and went on to be screened at over forty festivals. Along the way, this film won the Gilles-Carle Award for Best Film at the RVQC, the Critics’ Choice Award at the FNC, the Cinema and City Award in Thessaloniki, the Best Film Award at the Gotham Film Festival, as well as two Best Actor awards for Raphaël Lacaille at Gotham and Whistler. His third feature film Felix and Meira was released in 2014, won the Best Canadian Film Award at TIFF and was presented in official competition at the San Sebastian Film Festival. It was then presented in more than 80 festivals where it won about 20 awards. The film was released in several countries including France, the United States, Australia, Belgium, Switzerland and Taiwan. Felix and Meira was chosen to represent Canada in the 2016 Oscar race. La Grande Noirceur, had its world premiere at TIFF 2018 and continues its international tour. The film won 5 Canadian Screen Awards out of 8 nominations including Best Director and Best Film, 1 IRIS and 5 nominations and Best Film at the 2019 Calgary Film Festival.
