Workshop - Experimental Cycle - Spring 2026
Saturday June 13, 2026 - Saturday June 20, 2026
10 am - 5 pm
Main Film Atelier
2025 Rue Parthenais #304-A, Montréal, Quebec, H2K 3T2
With Chantal Partamian (Traces, L’Arbre, Sandjak)
Member 240$ | Non-member 310$
Archives often lie dormant, sometimes forgotten, until a specific action reactivates them and brings them back into the present. Whether personal, public, or collective, they contain traces, bodies, and narratives just waiting to be revisited.
This workshop offers a theoretical and practical exploration of creative work based on archives. An introduction will address the aesthetic and ethical issues related to the reuse of images and sounds. Participants will then be invited to develop their own project, from research to conceptualization, by experimenting with different ways of combining image, sound, and/or text in order to create a new work from existing materials.
The workshop will be given in French but questions may be asked in English.

Chantal Partamian is an experimental filmmaker and archivist whose work centers on Super 8mm and found footage. She explores speculative histories while engaging questions of archives, memory, and spectral presence. Her archival practice focuses on preserving and restoring reels from the Eastern Mediterranean through the Katsakh Project, alongside research on archival methods in conflict zones. Her films have screened widely, and her writings regularly appear in Montréal’s Revue Hors-Champ.
Our experimental cycle continues all spring! See the full schedule here.
