Frédéric Chalté is the first recipient of (tri)Cycle 2024-2025 !

Main Film would like to congratulate Frédéric Chalté and his short film project La Hère, the first recipient of the (tri)Cycle grant for the year 2024/2025. Congratulations Frédéric, and a big thank you to our jury! Consequently, Frédéric will benefit from the advice of recognized professionals and free use of up to $10,000 in production equipment!

Freely inspired by a Quebec folk legend, La Hère tells the story of the Kid, a new recruit to a group of violent game wardens who watch over a vast forest territory. Following a brutal night of initiation, the young man decides to flee this toxic environment. Little does he know, however, that a legendary creature lurks in the heart of the wilderness around him.

In 2019, I had already been impressed by Rémi Dufresne‘s work on his short film Mélopée. When we met and he shared this new script with me, I was fascinated by the richness of his ideas. I was completely captivated by this world of anxiety-inducing forest horror, with its supernatural and suspenseful tones. After several months of collaboration, we integrated Rémi’s ideas and original intentions with a personal subtext that I’m keen to share through the realization of the project.

(tri)Cycle Support program

(tri)Cycle is a Main Film program that supports the creation of short fiction films. The program is open to independent filmmakers, regardless of experience. To be eligible, applicants must retain full creative and editorial control over all aspects of the project. In keeping with our organization’s mission, the aim of (tri)Cycle is to support, accompany and encourage independent filmmakers with a strong and bold artistic commitment.

Through this 4-month program, selected artists will benefit from expert advice from recognized professionals, as well as free access to $10,000 worth of film equipment!

This program supports 3 filmmakers per year, or one project per cycle. The project supported is determined by an external selection committee made up of a director, a producer and a member of a distribution company.

The deadline for the second cycle is October 1, 2024.
