Discreet on the airwaves, audio documentaries or documentary podcasts are increasingly finding their way into the programming schedules of radio stations, festivals and online platforms. They enable documentary filmmakers to explore new creative avenues and expand their storytelling skills. This theoretical workshop will enable you to develop your documentary podcast idea with the expertise of journalist, filmmaker and audio documentarist Nicolas Lachapelle.

Nicolas Lachapelle

Nicolas Lachapelle is a journalist, filmmaker and audio documentarian. His work includes the feature-length documentaries Lumières sur l’eau (2015) and Le monde après nous (2020), the short films Zug Island (2022), Le punk de Natashquan (2024) as well as many audio creations like Du gaz dans le sang (2017), Og Doï (2020) and Par-delà la 138 (2020), Retour à Normétal (2023) and La chasse interdite (2024).

His works, which explore the relationship to territory through the themes of exile, rootedness and memory, have been presented at numerous festivals in Canada and internationally (including the Phonurgia Nova Awards). Recently, Nicolas was nominated for Best Documentary Short at the Gala Québec Cinéma and at the Canadian Screen Awards. He has also received several awards, including North Shore Artist of the Year in 2021 and Best First Documentary at Rendez-Vous Québec Cinéma in 2022. In the fall, he will publish his first book, a collection of photographs, with Noroît.
