Participants will discover unconventional forms of documentary, including collage, cinéma vérité and experimental documentary, with film examples to illustrate each approach. Topics such as aesthetics, the use of music, interview techniques and the connection between the filmmaker and the characters will be explored from a different perspective. The goal of this workshop is to present participants with new approaches to telling their stories in a way that distinguishes them from the rest.

Closing of registrations 7 days before the start of the workshop to give participants time to view the requested videos.

Il réalisé au cours des vingt dernières années des installations vidéo, des films expérimentaux et des documentaires. La Nouvelle Rupert (Brave New River) s’est mérité le Prix du 1^er long-métrage par un cinéaste canadien à Hot Docs 2013. Son dernier film, N&B (2016), est un court essai documentaire co-signé avec Carlos Ferrand.

Récemment il a travaillé comme monteur sur des projets de documentaires indépendants et a réalisé un épisode documentaire pour la télévision. Il a écrit sur le cinéma dans diverses publications (notamment comme co-éditeur de la revue en ligne Hors Champ de 1996 à 2016), est chargé de cours en Cinéma et « Studio Arts » à l’Université Concordia depuis 2007, et collabore à la programmation de films du festival Présence autochtone depuis 2013.
