Instructor: Sandrine Brodeur-Desrosiers (Juste moi et toi, Larguer les amarres)

The purpose of this 17-hour long workshop is to initiate directors into directing actors by giving them concrete tools, but also food for thought to build their own style. The workshop alternates between theory and practice and is divided into three parts: tools, text analysis and practice.
4h – Communication tools are concrete elements that promote communication between the director and the actor. We then ask ourselves: what should we observe in a performance, what do I want to modify and how to communicate it? You will discuss the difference between “result acting” and entering a “process”.
7h – Text analysis is one of the tools that allows the director to choose his direction, structure his scene and ensure that his proposal is consistent. Actors are taught text analysis to help them orient their proposal. However, this tool is just as important for filmmakers.
6h – At the end, the directors will direct actors and try to apply what has been learned. You will use a predetermined text.

Workshop is given in French but questions may be asked in English.

Sandrine obtained a bachelor’s degree in directing from Concordia, a master’s degree in acting at the Drama Center (London / Moscow) and a certificate in scriptwriting for feature films at INIS.
