This 6-hour training course will introduce you to documentary writing: the starting hypothesis, the choice of a shooting approach, the intuition of an atmosphere, the description of characters, and the elaboration of a visual and sound treatment. Following this workshop, you’ll be able to better structure your ideas, define your intentions and successfully convey them while developing your narrative style. The training is based on group discussion, screening of excerpts and project analysis.
Material to submit before December 4 2024 :
- Brief description of your project
Participants will be asked to give a brief presentation of their documentary project in the second block.
The workshop will be given in French but questions may be asked in English. For further information, please send an e-mail to : services@mainfilm.qc.ca
In 2002, Julien Elie directed his first documentary, Le Dernier repas, a plunge into the absurdity and horror of Huntsville, Texas, capital of the death penalty in the USA. After several years away from cinema, Julien Elie directed Dark Suns in 2018. The epic tale at the heart of the wave of violence hitting Mexico won a dozen awards and was screened at some sixty festivals around the world. Shot in 2021, The White Guard is his second feature film made in Mexico. His next film, Shifting Baselines, shot mainly in the U.S. and produced by GreenGround productions, will open in 2025.
Our documentary cycle continues this fall! Visit the Workshops page to see our full program.
