Nicolas Paquet

Independent filmmaker Nicolas Paquet directed his first feature documentary, La règle d’or, in 2011. This was followed by the feature Ceux comme la terre and the short Les sucriers, presented at numerous festivals in Canada and abroad. In 2017, he released Esprit de cantine, selected notably at the Montreal International Documentary Festival. His most recent film, L’acte de la beauté, immerses viewers in the thinking of farmer and philosopher Jean Bédard. Through his work, he offers a visual exploration of rural realities rooted in a search for sincerity.

Holding a master’s degree in political philosophy focused on Indigenous resurgence, he translates his reflections on community, rural territory, loss, and injustice into images. He is co-founder of franC doc, a production company based in Bas-Saint-Laurent since 2003. He also produced the documentaries Verdoyant pure laine (2005) and A beau venir qui part de loin (2009).

Nicolas Paquet is one of the founders of the Projections Cinédit film club. He played an active role in the development of the School of Cinema and Video Trades at Cégep de Rivière-du-Loup. He served on the boards of several organizations advocating for the vitality and future of documentary cinema.
